At the request of the Government of Canada, STAP hosted the Science Day at the Seventh GEF Assembly in Vancouver, BC, on Tuesday, 22 August 2023.

GEF CEO, Carlos Manuel Rodriguez, Rene van Hell, GEF Council Member from The Netherlands, and STAP Chair, Rosina Bierbaum opened the Day highlighting the importance of a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to protecting the global environment.
The morning Youth Leaders Learning Exchange began with a keynote address by Professor Rashid Samaila, offering a NOT “everything, everywhere, all at once” proposal for saving our oceans.
Six youth leaders shared their stories and insights to an audience comprising Ministers and other environmental leaders, young and old. They reflected on tools and means to encourage compassion and action and channel frustration and anger to influence change. Video of the event is available here.
