Rosina Bierbaum, the STAP Chair, is delighted to announce that Dr. Miriam Diamond has been appointed as the new Panel Member for Chemicals and Waste.
Dr. Diamond is a professor, and Associate Chair, in the Department of Earth Sciences and School of the Environment at the University of Toronto, with cross-appointments to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Department of Geography, and the Physical and Environmental Sciences Program at Scarborough College.
Her research, including investigating chemical contaminant releases, human and ecological exposure, and the translation of findings into preventative measures and policy advice, has been published in over 200 peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Bierbaum said, “Miriam’s strong scientific track record and her extensive experience in providing guidance and advice on the sound management chemicals, including in Uganda and Bangladesh, will be a major asset to the GEF, and I'm very much looking forward to working with her".
Dr. Diamond is also an Associate Editor of the American Chemical Society journal, Environmental Science and Technology, which covers environmental science, technology, and policy research. She is the vice-chair of the International Panel on Chemical Pollution and a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and was co-chair of the Canadian Chemical Management Plan Science Committee from 2017 to 2021.
