As the GEF-8 Integrated Programs are established, with a universal ambition to be transformative, it is important to be clear on what transformation is and how to monitor it in ways that can assist with rapid learning and adaptive management.

To assist the GEF address this objective, STAP co-organized with the GEF, a webinar on “Monitoring and learning about transformation”, which took place on March 30, 2023. Mark Stafford Smith, STAP, presented an approach to these issues based on STAP’s guidance on transformation. We also heard from Daniel Kehrer (German Agency for International Cooperation, GIZ) about GIZ’s experiences with framing transformation, as well as monitoring approaches. Ana Maria Gonzalez Velosa (World Bank) and Ludovic Bernaudat (UNEP/GEF) also presented experiences with tackling and monitoring transformation in the Amazon Sustainable Landscape Program and planetGOLD, respectively.

The speakers’ presentations can be accessed under the Documents tab.

The webinar may be viewed here.

A brief note summarizing the discussions will be shared soon.
